Winchester Regional Airport

The ultimate goal of this project was to accommodate more jet traffic on a 5,500-foot runway. To accomplish this, we shut down the runway in September, demolished seven homes that were adjacent to the taxiway, removed the piping and drainage that were in the homes, and leveled the land to prepare it for future development. Paving began before Halloween and we were able to finish most of it before Thanksgiving.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport

Rifenburg’s relationship with the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority continues to be strong. The partnership, which began around the year 2000, has solidified further as we have recently successfully completed another major project and continue to provide on-going landside/airside maintenance for this busy international airport.

Newport News / Williamsburg Int’l Airport

The configuration of this busy airport’s runways includes an intersection crossing. Phase I of the Rehabilitation of Runway 7-25 involved the northern half of the runway, the only one with an Instrument Landing System (ILS). We paved 4,200 linear feet (150-feet wide) with 36,000 tons of asphalt mix, provided erosion control, demolished an existing taxiway, and installed lighting and airfield electrical improvements.

Chesterfield County Airport

This exciting but demanding airport project required a total runway reconstruction to be completed in an extremely short time frame. For 60 days, our crew worked around the clock, successfully finishing the job to accommodate the 50,000 people expected to gather for a huge air show the weekend after the agreed-upon construction schedule.

Woodall Subdivision

Rifenburg exceeded contract expectations and provided turn-key readiness for the construction of CalAtlantic Homes’ newest residential subdivision, Woodall Estates. Site preparation was completed for 52 custom designed single family homes to create an upscale community 1.5 miles from downtown Apex, North Carolina. Work included erosion control, clearing & grubbing, excavation, storm drainage, sanitary sewer systems, water distribution system, keystone retaining walls, stone, curb, asphalt paving, sidewalks and a widening of Apex Barbecue Road. This project was completed on time and on schedule due to the outstanding management and teamwork by Rifenburg.

Mitchell Mill Road Widening

This project consists of approximately 6000 feet of road widening broken into 3 phases and to span a period of 600 days. This widening is taking place in an extremely high traffic area and safety is of the essence. The project is also covered with overhead and underground utilities that will make all aspects of this project a challenge. The Phase 1 operations started July 11th and are well under way. The erosion control and 75% of the grading for Phase 1 are complete to date. Storm, sewer and water operations are slated to start September 19th with nearly 750 linear feet of box culvert to start being set shortly after that. Phase 1 paving should be well under way by year end. Phase 2 operations are scheduled to start in early spring of 2017.

New Hill Road Reconstruction

The final push of this project to meet the 100-day time constraint was successful! The Wake County Elementary school was dependent on this schedule being met and they were able to get their CO’s and move in as planned. The school is in full operation! This project is also 100% complete and thanks go out to all that participated in its success! The crew jumped a lot of hurdles to get this project where it needed to be in the end! Wake County and NCDOT were both pleased to get this road opened on time!

Cary Wash Stations

The Town of Cary Wash Stations project was completed in Mid-June and on schedule. Both facilities, USA Baseball and WakeMed Soccer Park are both using their new wash stations for all of their equipment. Thanks to all that were involved in this project! The project has been punched out and completed!

Triangle North Executive Airport

After completing the Fayetteville Regional and Oconee Regional Airport in 2015, this taxiway and industrial hanger expansion was a great fit for the NC Division. Construction of 1000 linear feet of new taxiway, access road and industrial development infrastructure is nearing completion. The project required removal of 50,000 cubic yards of rock, installation of 1000 linear feet of a fire suppression system, 1000 linear feet of gravity sewer and 1000 linear feet of waterline. The project is scheduled for final completion in October 2016 .Kudos to the airport crew, the project is on time and under budget!

Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport

After the original bid in 2014, not one, but 2 rebids and a bunch of long eared bat. YES the Spartanburg Contract was awarded and construction began in July! This $12 million Runway Expansion has three phases spanning two construction seasons and consists of all aspects of construction. Clearing the 105 acre site, grubbing, installation of the new sewer system, and the 12’ Diameter Multi-Plate was all completed this summer. Currently, we are finishing up the cast in place headwalls and relocating the existing creek in preparation for Phase 2. Assuming Mother Nature cooperates and we anticipate she will, Phase 2 will begin this November. Excavation of 1.6 million yards and construction of six detention ponds will keep the airport crew busy through the cold months and most of the 2017 season - notice I didn’t say WINTER months!? To date we are 30% complete and our team is looking good.
